Welcome to St. Vital Dental Centre
St. Vital Dental Centre has been providing high-quality patient-centered dentistry since 1963. Located at the corner of St. Anne’s Road and St. Mary’s Road, in the Old St. Vital area of Winnipeg Manitoba, the St. Vital Dental Centre team is currently led by Dr. Terrence James - Dr. Terry. Dr. Terry is the third generation of dentists to own St. Vital Dental Centre. Dr. Terry and his dedicated team of dental hygienists, dental assistants, front-desk staff, and associate work together to provide care to patients 6 months old to 99+ years old. Some of our patients have been with our office since the
day it opened in 1963.
A Message to our Patients about COVID-19
November 13, 2020
To our valued patients,
We hope this letter finds you well during this difficult time. With the new partial shutdown announced by the province, we felt it was an appropriate time to update everyone on our current practices during the pandemic, and the state of dentistry at this time.
I would like to thank you for your support over the past 8 months. COVID-19 has affected individuals and businesses in different ways, and I am very appreciative of all those who came in during this time to invest in their oral health. We know that for many, their visit to our office was one of their first times out of their house in months.
I am proud of everything my team has done to practice dentistry safely. Our infection control standards in dentistry have always been very effective, and have prepared us well for mitigating the risk of COVID-19. In addition to our evidence-based infection control standards for cleaning and sterilization between appointments, we have also been following best practices put forth by the Manitoba Dental Association. These include but are not limited to screening patients and staff, wearing enhanced PPE, and having patients do a pre-procedural rinse that kills intra-oral bacteria and viruses.
The announcement earlier this week of a Code Red partial shut-down has caused many of our patients to call the office asking if dental appointments are allowed at this time. According to provincial health officials, the Manitoba Dental Association, and the Manitoba Dental Hygiene Association, dentists and dental hygienists can continue to safely provide care to their patients at this time.
Although this comes as good news to those of us working in the dental field, the recommendation to limit personal interactions has caused many of our patients to defer dental appointments to future dates. This has resulted in a considerable decrease in the demand for appointments at our office. In particular our dental hygienists have been hit the hardest due to the non-urgent nature of their work. The St. Vital Dental Centre Team understands you may be torn by your desires to maintain your oral health but also to stay home and help in the fight against COVID-19.
With that said, we want to reiterate that we are happy to have you visit the office when YOU feel comfortable to do so. That could be soon, or it could be in the future; we just want to be one of the first places you come when you feel it is safe for you and your family to see us. St. Vital Dental Centre is made up of a great team of dental hygienists, dental assistants, and administrative staff who have been going beyond regular duty to ensure the safety of our patients and each other; and we look forward to seeing you at your next visit, whenever that may be.
We are here to help, and I look forward to seeing you soon,
Dr. Terry James DDS
